Apple now allows users to leave a rating from zero to five stars for some of its pre-installed apps, allowing users to write their own reviews. At the time of writing, the Podcastshas a rating of 2 out of 5 stars from 156 reviews.
At the time of writing, no Apple app has a perfect five-star rating, with even the company's built-in Stocks app struggling to reach 4 out of 5. Notes has earned just 3.6 out of 5 stars, while even Maps, which has received more attention from Apple over the years, only has a 3 out of 5 rating.
By opening its apps to ratings and reviews, Apple and its teams are now able to get more direct feedback on individual apps on the iPhone and iPad. The move also helps address some potential concerns from Apple's competitors, who might have previously argued that by hiding ratings and reviews for pre-installed apps, Apple was being anti-competitive.

Apple's pre-installed apps, like Mail, Podcasts, and Maps, don't get regular feature updates from the App Store like other apps. Instead, their major updates come with major iOS releases.
Apple improves and tweaks all of its apps with every minor update to iOS and iPadOS, but major changes, such as those likely requested through ratings and reviews, are not expected to come sporadically throughout the year, but instead, users will have to wait for the next major iOS release to see if their wishes have been realized.
