In recent weeks, WhatsApp has added a number of new features to its app that users have been asking for for years. This includes the ability for users to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices at the same time, allowing users to send photos and videos without much compression, and adding support for expiring media. But that's not all. We recently learned that WhatsApp is adding a new UI for audio and video calls along with the ability to allow users to join group calls that have already started. Back then, this was limited to select WhatsApp beta users. But now, both of these improvements have been rolled out to more users.

In a blog post on Monday, WhatsApp officially announced joinable calls, a feature that lets users jump into group calls even if they’re already in progress. If you’ve missed an incoming group call or ignored it, WhatsApp now displays a “Tap to join” banner in the “Calls” tab to let you join (while the call is still in progress). Additionally, users can also leave and rejoin a group call, similar to calls on Google Meet and Zoom.
The incoming call UI for group calls has also been updated (see screenshots above). Instead of the red reject button, there’s a new “Ignore” button, and the green download button has been replaced by a “Join” button. The new UI also shows you who’s already joined the call and who’s been invited but hasn’t joined yet.

Join-in calls with the new calling UI are rolling out to WhatsApp users starting today. Both of these improvements are already available in the latest WhatsApp beta and will soon reach the stable release.
