Spain's Ministry of Labor and Social Economy (MITES) is working to restore its services after falling victim to a cyberattack.

MITES is a ministerial department with an annual budget of approximately 39 million euros, tasked with coordinating and overseeing Spain's employment, social economy and corporate social responsibility policies.
While the ministry's website is still up and running after the attack, both the communications office and the "multimedia room" are down.
Spain's Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal (SEPE) – part of the MITES government agency that was hit by ransomware in March – says it was not affected by the specific cyberattack.
“The cyberattack suffered by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy did NOT affect the operation of the State Public Employment Service,” SEPE stated.
“The Electronic Office, the website and all services continue to work normally.”

The cyberattack on MITES' systems comes after a Ryuk ransomware that hit SEPE's network three months ago, on March 9.
The incident affected more than 700 agency offices across Spain after Ryuk operators encrypted the company's network systems.
According to an announcement made on the agency's website at the time, the ransomware spread beyond SEPE's workstations and reached the laptops of the remote staff .

As a direct result of the ransomware attack that hit SEPE's network, hundreds of thousands of appointments booked through the office were delayed across Spain.
