“Lamborghini is not going to change the environment of this world, but social acceptance starts when you look in the mirror in the morning and see your own face.” This is a heavy statement with remarkable self-awareness that comes from the CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann.

Winkelmann first took the wheel of Lamborghini in 2005 and led the company for 11 years. He left to do some things at Audi in 2016 and then took on the role of CEO at Bugatti in 2018. At the end of last year, he returned to Lamborghini, in a historic brand.
“How can we take the company to the next level?” he wondered and his answer is to reduce emissions by 50% by 2025.

“The goal of reducing [emissions] for us is even more difficult, because we are a super sports car company”, said Winkelmann in an interview earlier this month, “and it is not only about reduction but also about maintaining performance and the dream. It means changing everything, but not changing anything.”
The Lamborghini cars are known for their very high speeds. Creating a silent, efficient, electric drivetrain is a difficult job, says Winkelmann.
Also, Winkelmann confirmed that Lamborghini will present an all-electric mode, the company's first pure EV which will be the fourth regular production model in its series.
“It’s going to be a four-seater,” he said. “So it’s not going to be your typical Huracan or Aventador. It’s going to be a commuter model.” Our minds immediately went to the J1 platform shared by the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT, but Winkelmann told me that the platform hasn’t been decided yet. “[We still have] to look at the body style, the size of the car, two or four doors, etc.” This electric car, unfortunately, isn’t due for release until 2025.

The Lamborghini EV is an exciting concept, but the changes won't stop there. The company's other three models – the Aventador, Huracan and Urus – will feature hybrid powertrains by 2024.
