A Texas lawyer went viral on social media after activating a filter that turned him into a kitten during an online Zoom court hearing.
Attorney Rod Ponton 's special appearance quickly made its way onto Twitter . In the clip that has been shared, the lawyer is seen trying to disable Zoom's kitty filter.
Judge Roy B. Ferguson also tried to help Ponton, to no avail.
“Mr. Ponton, I believe you have a filter enabled in settings your video,” Ferguson is heard saying.
Perhaps the funniest moment in the video is when the Texas lawyer tries to assure the judge that he's not actually a kitten.
“I have my assistant here and she’s trying to turn off the filter, but I’m getting ready to move on,” Ponton says. “I’m here. I’m not a kitten,” he says.
The video has already been viewed more than 1.6 million times and the views continue to grow.
In a statement to Vice, the lawyer said he accidentally activated the kitten filter, since he was not using his own computer but his secretary's.
“I was using her computer and for some reason it had this Zoom filter on it. I took it off and replaced it with my face,” he said. “It was a case involving a man trying to get out of the United States with smuggled and stolen cash. All that happened was a mistake. It was turned off and the trial went on as normal.”
Judge Ferguson also commented on the funny incident on Twitter
“IMPORTANT ZOOM TIP: If your child has used your computer, before starting a video conference, check video to make sure filters are turned off,” Ferguson said. “This kitty just made an official announcement about a case.”
The Texas lawyer isn't the only one who's had a problem during a Zoom conference call. As the app has become increasingly popular amid the pandemic, users have been experiencing a variety of similar issues.
