A strange metallic monolith was discovered in the Utah desert by a helicopter crew passing through the area!
The Utah NBC subsidiary, KSL TV, reported the unusual finding on Saturday, sharing footage that was taken by the crew of a helicopter from the Utah Department of Public Safety that was assisting the Utah Wildlife Resources department in Utah.
KSL journalist Andrew Adams wrote on Twitter that all of this reminded him of an episode of Star Trek.
“I would say the object is about 30 to 40 feet tall,” pilot Bret Hutchings told KSL. “We made a joke that if one of us suddenly disappeared , then there must be something strange going on with this object .” The crew landed to take a closer look. Hutchings said the monolith was firmly planted in the ground and speculated that it could be NASA- related or just a piece of art.
The Utah Department of Public Safety shared the story on Facebook, saying, “No day is the same for members of the Aero Bureau, and what they encountered recently is certainly different from their daily routine.” The department is keeping the exact location a secret.
The monolith bears a striking resemblance to the alien monolith prop created for Stanley Kubrick's iconic film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Aero Bureau shared a photo on Instagram along with the question "What exactly is this?"
What is the monolith? Work of art? Probably. A message from an alien civilization? Probably not.
