The new Valorant update causes errors

After installing today's Valorant 1.07 update, Windows users are reporting that they are unable to launch the game and are seeing the error "VCRUNTIME140.dll is missing" or "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll is missing".

When creating today's update, Riot Games forgot to include a Windows (DLL) required to run the game.

Since these required DLLs are not installed on Windows, when you launch Valorant, the game displays one of the following two errors.

“The program can't start because vcruntime140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”

OR

“The program can't start because vcruntime140_1.dll is missing from computer . Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”

Valorant

A later patch released tonight by Riot Games informs users who want to boot into the Valorant game that they need to install “Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Runtime.”

“The following components are required to run this program: Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Runtime”

The new Valorant update causes errors

To install this runtime and fix the vcruntime140.dll or vcruntime140_1.dll error in Valorant, follow the steps below to download the latest Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft:

  1. Go to this Microsoft support page
  2. In the “Visual Studio 2015, 2017, and 2019” section, download and install both vc_redist.x86.exe (for 32-bit programs) and vc_redist.x64.exe (for 64-bit programs).
  3. After installing the runtimes, you may be prompted to restart Windows. Do so if prompted.
  4. You should now be able to run Valorant again.

Users who have installed the runtimes in the past will not need to do so again.
