Cloi Servebot, LG's robot, is coming to help hospital staff by transporting medical equipment, starting from a hospital in Seoul.
LG Electronics has expanded the deployment of service robots to hospitals and restaurants, according to statements it made on Wednesday.
The Cloi Servebot is being deployed at Seoul National University Hospital , aiming to assist employees by transporting medical equipment such as blood samples, medicines , diagnostic reagents , and various other items, the South Korean electronics industry said.
The robot assistants come in 2 variants. One version is the drawer version and the second is the shelf version.
LG said the drawer version of the Cloi Servebot is more suitable for hospitals, hotels and offices due to its size. Its dimensions are 50cm x 50cm x 130cm and it can carry up to 15kg of equipment, spread across its three drawers . The drawers have safety locks and operators can control the robot’s movement, set the robot’s movement schedule and view its usage history.
Meanwhile, the company said it will develop the shelf version primarily for restaurants managed by its partner, CJ Foodville. LG has already deployed service robots in some restaurants to deliver customers' food. It has also deployed a robot in the place of the cook, which makes noodles and is called Cloi Chefbot.
The shelf version of the Cloi Servebot is the same size as the drawer version. It supports up to four shelves, which can hold up to 20 kilos of food and miscellaneous items.
LG's robot features autonomous technology , which enables it to detect and avoid obstacles. It also has a touchscreen with various mood options to interact with customers.
As the company claims, robots will make things easier for employees and reduce workload , while preventing them from unnecessary contact with people.
The Cloi Servebot project of LG was announced for the first time in 2016, with the initial idea that the robot would operate as a guide and cleaner at Incheon International Airport.
