How to schedule email sending in Gmail and Outlook?

Emails are one of the most common ways to communicate these days, especially in the professional field. However, many times we are not sure if we should send an email at a specific time or if we should do it later. We may be afraid that if we don't send it the moment we think about it, we will forget it. No need to worry! There is the possibility of scheduling the sending of emails. Gmail and Outlook give you the option to schedule your emails for a certain time within the same day, week or year. See below how you can do it:

How to schedule emails in Gmail using browser ?

The scheduling process in Gmail is very easy.

  • After composing your email, click the arrow next to the blue “Send” button.
  • Click on “Schedule a shipment”

  • Click one of the scheduling options (If you select the “Select date and time” button at the bottom of the pop-up window, you can set any date and time you want for the email to be sent)

Outlook email
  • Finally, click on “Schedule Send”.

How to schedule emails in Gmail via the mobile app?

  • Once you've written your email, tap the three dots in the top right corner
  • Select “Schedule Send” from the options at the bottom of the screen (iOS) or from the drop-down menu (Android). As in the browser, you can select a date and time to send.
Outlook
  • Tap “Save” in the top right corner of the pop-up window (iOS) or tap “Schedule Send” in the bottom right corner (Android).

Whether you use your browser or the app, the email will end up in the “Scheduled” box. To edit it, you’ll need to click on the email and then tap “Cancel Send.” This will return the email to “Drafts” so you can make any changes. You can then schedule it again.

How to schedule emails in Outlook?

For Outlook, you must use the desktop app. You can't do it through a browser or mobile app.

  • Once you start writing a new message, click on the “Options” tab at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the three dots in the bar at the top
  • Select “Delayed delivery” from the drop-down menu

  • In the “Delivery Options” section, make sure the box next to “Do not deliver before” is checked. You can use the options that appear, or simply type in the date and time you want your email to be sent.
  • When you are finished, click “Close.”
Outlook email

The email will end up in the “Outbox” where you can make any changes (even change the time and date of sending).

The downside is that you have to have the Outlook app openfor the email to be sent at the right time. If you close the app, the email will be sent the next time you open the app.
