Yesterday, the new Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Service) version , known as Bionic Beaver , was released .
Ubuntu is a free and open-source Linux distribution, based on Debian. The release of updated versions is predictable, in the sense that they always occur in specific months. It is released twice a year, once in April and once in October. Typically, these versions are supported for nine months.
The new Ubuntu 18.04.4, however, is a long-term support (LTS) release, which fixes some security and supports newer hardware, such as the bleeding-edge Intel WiFi chipset in HP's Dragonfly Elite G1 laptop .
Ubuntu 18.04.4 fixes several "small issues," such as a bug that sometimes prevented shutdown or reboot. There are also fixes for issues related to the system. Some of the most interesting features of the new version are the following:
- Updates to Nvidia drivers provided by Ubuntu. The updates cover newer graphics cards.
- UI fixes in Gnome Software .
- Updates to the thunderbird email client.
- WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) environments will detect, install, and run X11 and PulseAudio for Windows.
- New updates to Canonical's " containerization system " and snapd .
- Amazon Web launcher is being removed
If you are already running Ubuntu 18.04, you don't need to do anything special to get the update. You will receive the update automatically during your regular system updates. If you have automatic updates enabled, it will be done without any action on your part .New users can download version 18.04.4 directly from ubuntu.com.
