Those who have been victims of the FortuneCrypt, Yatron, WannaCryFake and Avest ransomware cyberattackshave the ability to recover files without giving in to the hackers' blackmail.
Security technology companies such as Kaspersky Lab and Emsisoft have collaborated to create No More Ransom, which is designed to help businesses and consumers fight cybercrime.
Now, more decryption tools have been added to No More Ransom, as Kaspersky Lab has made tools to decrypt Yatron and FortuneCrypt, while Emsisoft has released a free decryption feature for WannaCryFake.
The hackers who created Yatron relied on Hidden Tear, a well-known form of open-source ransomware, which encrypts users' files. However, Kaspersky's research team identified the ransomware's flaws and created a decryption mechanism.
FortuneCrypt, on the other hand, is a unique form of ransomware written in programming language . Although the programming language is quite simple, FortuneCrypt threatens to delete files if victims do not pay the ransom within 24 hours. Perhaps due to the simple programming language, FortuneCrypt's cryptography is weak, making it possible to counter it.
A free decryption tool has also been released for WannaCryFake. This is a ransomware attack that has been around since 2017. And WannaCryFake victims find their files encrypted with .WannaCry and face a blackmail that demands a Bitcoin in exchange for the files. Now those infected by WannaCryFake can download the free decryption tool from Emsisoft to get their files back without paying.
Emisisoft researchers have published a free decryption for the Avest ransomware. No More Ransom now offers free decryption tools for over a hundred ransomware, since it launched three years ago.
