FOSSCOMM (Free and Open Source Software Communities Meeting) is the national conference of free and open source software communities. The content is of broad interest, from technical issues and workshops, to translations, legal issues, policy issues related to free/open source software, etc.
It has been held every year since 2008 and has been organized in 6 different cities to date. The organization is done by volunteers and its financing is based on sponsorships and donations.
This year's FOSSCOMM conference will be held in Heraklion, Crete and will be hosted on the campus located just outside the city. More specifically, the organizing team consists of the RADIO STATION of the University of Crete (РА.СТА.ПАН.К 96.7), the Graduate Association of the Department of Computer Science and the Hackerspace Lab.
The organization of the conference talks will be done in sections, which include talks and workshops. Initially, we have a section for security in which the Greek Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) community also participates, as well as a Cryptoparty where we will learn about privacy protection and encryption technologies. It will also have sections for Mobile & IoT (Internet Of Things), for Cloud & DevOps, as well as for the open RISC-V architecture. The conference will also cover topics of broader interest that do not require technical knowledge, such as issues of policy, legislation, education, science, but also talks regarding the organization of communities. For those who want to take the first step towards free/open software technologies, there will also be a section for beginners.
The program is expected to be announced soon and we expect several more surprises and activities that will fill the two-day event. If you are interested in submitting a talk, the deadline has been extended until September 23, while registrations for attendance will be open until the day of the conference.
