Along with Windows 8, a new feature made its appearance, called Live Tiles. And it may not have received the best reviews from users, but it continued to be added by Microsoft in subsequent versions of its operating system, including Windows 10 as part of a revamped Start Menu.
However, after about six years, it's almost certain that Microsoft will finally remove the Live Tiles feature from upcoming Windows updates.
This belief was created after the company accidentally released a new Windows 10 Insider build, which was for internal use only. Some Insiders managed to notice that Live Tiles were missing from the “Start” build of Build 18947.
It was previously reported that Microsoft would remove the feature from an upcoming version of Windows, called Windows Lite, which will be based on Windows Core OS. There was another hint when Microsoft removed the “Pin to Start” option from the Windows 10 notification that appears after installing an app in that version.
However, it is not possible to say exactly when Microsoft will implement this change. It seems that it is in a very early stage. Also, we will have to wait a little longer until we see the change that the company will make to the Start menu.
Regardless, it doesn't seem like the removal of the Live Tiles feature will affect many people. It's more than likely that there are many users who don't use the feature even once a week. The lack of support for Live Tiles from third-party apps has also reduced the feature's popularity.
