Why you shouldn't charge your phone at the airport?

Airports want you to feel at home… and the truth is, they succeed. But is it safe? Especially when airport amenities include USB power outlets for charging your phones, we need to know how safe the place is.

Plugging into a public USB port is like finding a toothbrush on the side of the road and using it. Remember, that USB port can transfer data.

The security issue regarding airport USB ports is quite important as hackers "travel".

It is worth noting that a hacker will think of many ways to trick you. One of them is to leave something that for most of us will seem like a lifesaver. A cable, for example, from your iPhone charger. Without a second thought you will use it, without thinking that the cable may have a chip with malware.

Don't worry though, there are solutions to stay safe.

  1. You can buy the Juice-Jack Defender, which you can put in front of the charging cable and it basically blocks data from going down the cable. It only passes the voltage.
  2. Don't forget to always have your personal charging gadgets with you.
  3. Avoid dealing with critical work-related information when you are at the airport.
