Monero (XMR): Critical security flaw fixed in Ledger wallet

Monero (XMR) developers have fixed a bug in the cryptocurrency hardware Ledger walletthat was hiding users' funds.

First of all, for those who don't know, Monero is a privacy-focused altcoin, which ranks thirteenth in the top twenty cryptocurrencies in the market.

Its dedication to anonymity has made it a favorite for those concerned about privacy, but it has also been accused of being used by hackers, who have developed malware to wreak havoc on users' devices.

The bug was discovered in March and Ledger believed it was a synchronization issue as the platform did not react correctly when a user made a transaction.

The issue only affected those using Ledger Nano S devices to access their XMR wallet. As of this week, the issue has been officially resolved via a code release from Monero developers luigi1111 and stoffu.

The amount believed to have been lost is 1,680 XMR (approximately $115.00), raising concerns about a dangerous bug.

“A few weeks ago, some Ledger Monero users were affected by a code error. Due to the error, a percentage of transactions were incorrectly constructed and the wallet was unable to detect the change, thus giving the user the impression that their funds were lost,” the patch report summarizes.

"Fortunately, we were able, in collaboration with the Ledger team, to resolve this error and recover the 'lost' funds of the affected users," the report also notes.

Monero promised to revise the Monero Ledger code in more stringent terms, adding tests to the format similar to those performed for the Trezor hardware wallet.
