Facebook has been experimenting with Dark Mode on Messenger - a much-requested feature - since last year's F8 conference, but it was only available in a few countries until now. It looks like the feature is now available for all Android users - all you have to do is send a moon emoji!

Discovering the dark mode easter egg is pretty simple. Just send the crescent moon emoji 🌙 in a conversation and tap the pop-up menu. It’s worth noting that some users may need to restart the Messenger and enable the feature from the settings. The app warns that dark mode is still a work in progress and hasn’t been finalized yet – although all the subsections of the settings menu seem to work just fine.

Everything indicates that Facebook is determined to keep users in its ecosystem , and with a redesigned Messenger UI, the ability to cancel sending messages , and the possible integration of Messenger, Whatsapp, and Instagram into the infrastructure, the company hopes that the new impressive capabilities and features will distract users, thus ignoring any concerns about their privacy and security.
It remains to be seen if the trick worked.
