Earlier today, Instagram accidentally released an update that makes the Feed appear horizontally, as opposed to the default vertical display setting. Users are now forced to tap on their screen to browse their newsfeed, instead of scrolling vertically.
Users were "horrified" by Instagram's new layout and flooded the Internet with their comments. The accidental update only affected iPhone users, while Android and desktop users did not experience the 'tap through posts' change. Instagram soon corrected its mistake and returned the social media platform to its original vertical scrolling settings.
Shortly afterwards, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri explained in a series of tweets that the company was testing the new feature and mistakenly rolled it out to users in the form of an update.
The feature was first reported by TechCrunch in October, and Instagram confirmed that it was testing a feature that would allow users to view their feed by tapping on it, just like in Stories. The feature, at the time, was limited to the Explore section.
In the short time since Instagram changed the way its feed looks, netizens went crazy and released a series of jokes and memes on Twitter. Here are some of the most hilarious:
