Huawei is developing its own alternative operating system for Android

functionalFor a long time, there have been rumors suggesting that Huawei is secretly working on a new smartphone operating system to compete with Android.

Huawei's Product VP Bruce Lee confirmed yesterday on Weibo (a Chinese social media and news site) that an alternative operating system, which replaces Android, is "under development.".

Earlier, rumors circulating online suggested that the new standalone operating system would be called “Kirin OS” and would only be available for Huawei devices. We may see the new standalone operating system launch sometime this summer.

Currently, Huawei is integrating its own SoC into its devices. HiSilicon, a subsidiary of Huawei, develops its own Kirin series of single-chip systems for Huawei devices and tablets. It recently launched the first 7nm processor, the Kirin 980, to compete with Snapdragon processors.

It seems that Huawei is trying to build a system exclusively for its own devices, something we have seen happen with Google and Apple devices.

Meanwhile, we are also seeing some developments in the field of the Google Fuchsia operating system, as Huawei is testing the Fuchsia on its Honor Play device.
