ICANN has scheduled the Root Zone Signing Key (KSK) Rollover for today and it could impact Internet access for some DNS users around the world .
With the release of the KSK, ICANN indicates that a new public and private encryption with the private key distributed to internet service providers, enterprise network administrators, and Domain Name System (DNS) resolvers.
Work on the KSK Rollover began in October 2016 and was scheduled to be completed in October 2017. However, ICANN announced that the rollout has been postponed due to the fact that “a significant number of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and network administrators are not yet ready for the use of the key.”
A plan was announced on February 1, 2018, with October 11, 2018, as the proposed start date. According to ICANN, this change is necessary to limit the increasing number of cyber attacks.
In an official statement, the Communications Regulatory Authority said: “To further clarify, some internet users may be affected if their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions.”
Due to ongoing maintenance work, some users may experience problems accessing websites or making transactions over the next 48 hours.
