An Apollo database was stolen

A massive database of 200 million contact records was stolen from Apollo after a data breach incident.

The leaked information contained names, emails, company names, and various other business contact information, such as phone numbers and job titles.

The stolen Apollo database did not contain sensitive customer information such as banking information, social security numbers or passwords, according to the spokesperson.

“We have confirmed that a database of ours has been publicly released, which could include names, emails, company names, and other business contact information,” said an email sent to customers about the security incident.

“Some data was imported by the customer without permission,” Apollo said without specifying the exact type of data they were reporting, according to the email obtained by TechCrunch.

Apollo CEO Tim Zheng told TechCrunch that all customers had been notified of the data restrictions, but declined to answer any other questions about the data breach.

It is currently unclear whether Apollo notified US or EU authorities about the data theft the company suffered, but it is certain that the consortiums will impose sanctions in case the startup had not followed GDPR regulations to the letter.

If what Apollo says about the database not containing financial and social security information is true, the severity level of this data breach should not exceed a medium level.

However, considering the number of files the attackers made off with and the increasing risk of potential phishing attacks for both individuals and businesses, the Apollo data theft incident could have serious implications in the future.
