Julia programming language – an alternative to Python

Python is one of the most popular programming languages, and could soon surpass C++. But another language, much newer than Python, called Julia, is becoming increasingly popular, according to RedMonk.

Developers have been using Python for almost 30 years, due to its capabilities in the fields of machine learning and big data. It is also a language with a fairly simple syntax, ideal for learning programming. Just like Julia, a language created in 2012, has recently become very popular.

Last week, according to a survey, Julia entered the list of the 50 most popular programming languages for the first time.

Redmonk said it paid attention to the Julia language after a large organization asked for its opinion on the language.

The language's continuous upward trajectory since its creation in 2012 can be explained by the goal and reason for its creation. The 4 creators had stated at the time that the goal is to be able to be used for machine learning, data mining, linear algebra, and multithreaded algorithms.

“We want a language that is open source with the speed of C and the dynamism of Ruby. We want a language with macros like Lisp, but with obvious and user-friendly mathematics like Matlab,” the creators wrote, and reported that so far 2 million downloads have been made from the official website.

Finally, according to their words and with the language being so promising, we can only expect good things, since since the day of its release there has been no drop in its audience.
