Hacker Highschool: Summer courses, more interesting than ever

Parents looking to keep their kids busy over the summer can sign them up for Hacker Highschool (HHS), a freeby IBM, ISECOM , and HHS. The course aims to teach students the art of hacking while helping them understand how things work. There are currently 12 courses available, starting with “Being a Hacker.”

In a blog post today, Pete Herzog, CEO of ISECOM, wrote that HHS is a great tool specifically designed to teach young people how to approach a problem the way a hacker would. The only prerequisites are curiosity and a desire to learn.

One of the latest courses available at Hacker Highschool is “Defensive Hacking,” which is an introduction to the skills and tools needed to become a security operations center analyst (SOC analyst). The reason IBM emphasized this course is because there is a high demand for SOC analysts these days, and because it is a job that does not require a college degree.

A small team of IBM security experts volunteered to help create these hacking courses. “We are excited about our work, and we look forward to seeing the results of our collaboration,” the team said.

It’s understandable that these courses won’t determine the students’ career paths. “No matter where they end up in their professional lives … our students will forever have the heart of a hacker.” For young people looking to develop their skills and solve a wide range of problems, this summer is the perfect time to learn how to hack.
