Apple recently confirmed that it is abandoning AirPort routers, advising its consumers to turn to hardware , some of which is also available in its stores.
The company announced that AirPort will continue to be available at the Apple Store and participating retailers while supplies last.
"We are discontinuing Apple AirPort products. They will be available through Apple.com, Apple retail stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last."
So those of you who were planning to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule, you'd better hurry.
The bad news? You'd expect that once the product is in its prime, it'll be offered at a significant discount. But Apple isn't cutting the price of these devices. So the AirPort Express can be yours for $99, while the more expensive Extreme version is still available for $199. The AirPort Time Capsule costs $299 with 2TB of storage and $399 for the 3TB version.
For information, Apple released the AirPort router in 1999, while the last product upgrade was in 2011.
The giant has not mentioned the possibility of creating new routers, but indirectly hints that the return will only take place if it has a significant benefit for the company.
In the meantime, Apple offers alternatives for those looking to buy a router from the Apple Store. One notable option is the Linksys Velop router.
