Apple's response to the recent iBoot leak

The recent leak of iOS 9 source code (iBoot) for older iPhone has apparently raised some concerns among iPhone and iPad users about whether their devices are as secure as the company advertises.

The motherboard was the first report of the leak of iBoot – a component of iOS that ensures that all apps and software installed on Apple devices are secure at boot and cannot be compromised in any way. Surprisingly, the compromised source code was found on GitHub these days. iBoot

Apple immediately removed the iBoot source code from GitHub, but the brief time it remained online was enough for some curious users to obtain new information to create new jailbreak tools. Apple, for its part, denied all allegations in a recent statement to CNET, stressing that updated devices are secure “by default.”

"Old source code appears to have been leaked, but by its very nature the security of our products does not depend on the secrecy of our source code. There are many layers of hardware and software protections built into our products, and we always encourage customers to stay up to date with the latest software releases to take advantage of the latest security features," an Apple spokesperson said.

Because the iBoot source code published on GitHub dates back two years, we have every reason to believe Apple when it says that iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices are secure “by design.”

The company is urging all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users to update their devices to the latest version of the iOS operating system, version 11.2.5, and to always keep their devices up-to-date when new iOS versions are available. Apple also said that the security of its devices is based on many layers, not just the source code.
