Galaxy X: Apple's decision to release the iPhone X in 2017 was no coincidence given that the company celebrated the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, but it seems that this particular naming approach is inspiring other manufacturing companies, and specifically its biggest rival, Samsung.
The South Korean company wants to rebuild the Samsung Galaxy S series starting with the 2019 generation and the name it wants to use is Galaxy X. On the one hand, this name seems like a completely logical choice given that the 10th generation of the Galaxy S is being celebrated, on the other hand, there will be many who say that Samsung is once again copying Apple.
Recent reports indeed claim that the Galaxy S9 will be the last model with this name, which is expected to be unveiled on February 15 and released in March.
Without doubt, the presence of two different models with the X brand in the market will provoke mixed reactions from the fans of both companies, but on the other hand, both names have a logical explanation.
Samsung, for example, is considering the possibility of converting the Galaxy S line to X, because otherwise the numbering could make things quite difficult. Just think that in the coming years, having a generation of smartphones that is released every 12 months, you will be buying the Samsung Galaxy S17 or S18.
What is interesting to see is how both Apple and Samsung plan to name the devices that will be released after the original X models. Apple is expected to unveil the first major upgrade of the iPhone X this fall of the current year, and some say the new device could be called either iPhone 9 or iPhone XS.
