Apple is working on three new Mac models for 2018 that could include its own ARM, according to a new report.
The new hardware approach will be similar to what the company took with the MacBook Pro and iMac Pro, which feature its own ARM co-processors to power various tasks.
In the MacBook Pro, the T1 chip runs the Touch Bar and Touch, while the iMac Pro uses the T2 which has a more advanced role and handles security systems, as well as powering the image signal processor for the FaceTime camera and the disk controller for SSDs.
While it's unclear what role the new co-processors will play in upcoming devices, sources say Apple wants to release two new laptops and a desktop that will feature the hardware.
It's believed that a new Mac Pro could be the desktop that various leaks are talking about, while the laptops could land in the form of upgraded 13-inch MacBooks or as MacBook Air replacements. Earlier this month, it was speculated that Apple was planning to dethrone the MacBook Air with a new 13-inch device scheduled to see the light of day in the second half of 2018.
The MacBook Air is currently the only laptop in Apple's lineup that doesn't have a Retina display and has received minimal upgrades since its launch in 2015, with a minor CPU refresh offered last year.
As with all Apple devices, no comment has been issued on these rumors, but to some extent, they seem to align with the company's plans for in-house hardware.
