Scott Tattersall developed the new Arduino board, a low-power device that includes built‑in support for Sigfox as well as the ability to be powered by a 3V CR2 battery. Designed for Internet of Things projects, the tiny Arduino development board provides an integrated cloud connection and supports back‑end services with IFTTT integration. The Siguino is based on an Arduino Pro Mini and thus uses an Atmega328p, while other components include:
– Temperature: Atmel AT30TS750A
– Light level: Photocell standard
– Accelerometer: LIS3DH
– Hall effect (Magnetic): AH9246
– 2 configurable digital pins
– 2 analog pins
– Power supplied by a 3V CR2 battery
– Antenna ProAnt OnBoard 868MHz
This device is designed for low power consumption, so it can run on a small battery for anywhere from 6 months to several years depending on how often messages are sent over the network (e.g. every 15 minutes vs once a day). The default Arduino software installed on the device uses the low power library to ensure that the main chip is in sleep mode most of the time and is only powered up to take basic measurements such as ambient temperature once a minute. The Nordic Semiconductor Power Profiler has been used to extensively test the power consumption of all components in real-world usage scenarios.
The low-power Arduino board is now available on Kickstarter with donations starting from just €15 or £13 and the release is expected to take place in January 2018. For more details and the full specifications of the Siguino, visit the official Kickstarter campaign page by following the link below.
