HP: “There is no spyware. The data collected is anonymous.”

As we mentioned in our previous article, recent allegations have claimed that HP is deploying spyware on its users' computers that not only slows down systems but also collects data without their consent.

HP, in a statement today, denies these rumors, emphasizing that the only data collection carried out is completely anonymous and is only activated if users give their consent.HP

Specifically, the HP Touchpoint Analytics service that was recently enabled with the driver update only collects hardware information in case something goes wrong. Furthermore, the data never leaves the computer unless users have chosen to share the logs with HP. In that case, the information collected is only useful when you need technical support and technicians need to access your system remotely.

Please note that if you decide to share your logs with HP, the process will be anonymous. This will improve performance, resolve errors promptly, and provide you with updates for any bugs that may arise.

HP Touchpoint Analytics has been offered as part of HP Support Assistant since 2014. It collects anonymous diagnostic information about hardware performance. Customers can also opt out or uninstall the service at any time.

HP Touchpoint Analytics was recently updated without any changes to the privacy settings of this update.

If, on the other hand, you do not want to run this specific service on your system, all you have to do is uninstall the Touchpoint Analytics program by going to the Windows 10 Settings app > Apps > Apps & features > HP Touchpoint Analytics Client > Uninstall.
