Microsoft is currently experimenting with a new search interface for Windows 10 that could make the feature more like Spotlight, the search tool built into Apple's macOS
The new interface is already available in Windows 10 build 17040, which was released to the Fast Ring of the Windows Insider program last week, and is expected to be part of the final Redstone 4 release in early 2018.
The new UI appears when you type in either the Cortana search bar or the Start menu, with a floating search bar also available for quick searches. You can also use the same feature by pressing Windows key + S.
Once you type in a keyword and perform a search, the new UI groups results into various categories just like Apple's macOS Spotlight. You can see all the results and apply various filters through a special window that makes it easier to find the information you're looking for. Dictation is also available if you want to perform a spoken search.
The filters include Windows 10 data such as apps, documents, folder, music, photos, settings, and videos, so Microsoft wants to make the search feature as powerful as possible in Windows 10.
Let's remind you that Windows 10 Redstone 4 is expected to launch in spring 2018, so there will certainly be other changes in subsequent builds until the official debut.
