LinkedIn's new messaging feature makes it easier to clear your inbox

LinkedIn is making its messaging feature much smarter.

The company has trained its app to predict how you will respond to messages to make it easier to access your inbox.

The feature, called smart replies, is rolling out now to the company's English-speaking users on desktop and laptop computers.

Similar to Google 's feature of the same name, LinkedIn's smart replies will populate up to three suggested responses for messages coming from your inbox. So if someone asks you to meet up with them, you could see smart reply suggestions like "what time" or "sure."

The company says these suggestions will improve and become more personalized over time, so they're more relevant to the way you speak and more tailored to your interactions. (You can also opt out of this entirely.).

While the feature makes it easier to clear out overloaded inboxes more quickly, it's also the latest way the company is delivering on its promise to enrich its service with more artificial intelligence following its acquisition by Microsoft.

Smart Replies are powered by machine learning technology, which allows the company to predict some very specific responses for any message in real time.

While there may be some hiccups at first, Google's version of the messaging feature, which is now part of both Inbox and Gmail, has proven to be a success. The feature is now responsible for about 10% of all mobile replies sent with Inbox.
