Within the next three years, many more electric cars are set to hit Singapore's roads – and at least 1,000 of them will be in service with BlueSG, the country's first car rental service.

Work is set to begin with the construction of the first 30 of a total of 500 BlueSG charging stations on the island.
BlueSG is from French transportation company Bollore and said Wednesday during an event that it plans to deploy 1,000 of its cars and 2,000 charging points (more than 500 stations) in Singapore by 2020.
It also reserves 400 of those 2,000 spots for non-BlueSG users – presumably for private drivers of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, who can pay a fee to charge them.
The cars for BlueSG appear to be Bollore's Blucar model, which it supplies to car rental services such as Autolib in Paris and BlueIndy in Indiana, USA.
The car rental service meets Singapore's expectations to eventually reduce car ownership and, with it, reduce citizens' dependence on driving.
Since last year, the country has allowed a slew of bike rental companies to set up shop, and the transport authority is working to connect bike lanes and pedestrian walkways so that those who want to can reach a metro station on foot, by bike or even their electric scooter.
