Hackers breached systems used by 14 different Trump Hotels properties between August 10, 2016, and March 9, 2017, managing to steal sensitive information such as customers' credit card details and other personal information.
In a 9-page statement posted on its official website, Trump Hotels informs customers that hackers managed to breach the systems of Sabre, which is a CRS company that provides online reservation services and systems, and not their own systems, although they confirm that personal information has been exposed.
“Following an investigation, Saber informed us on June 5, 2017 that an unauthorized party gained access to account credentials that allowed access to payment card data and certain reservation information for some of the hotel reservations made through Saber’s CRS,” the company explains.
Credit card details such as the cardholder's name, card number, expiration date and possibly the card's security code were intercepted by the hackers, Trump Hotels explained, along with names, emails, phone numbers, addresses and other information typically used by a hotel reservation service. Information such as social security numbers, passports and driver's licenses are completely safe.
“We are working with Sabre to address this issue. Sabre has hired a leading cybersecurity firm to support its investigation and stated that it has also notified law enforcement and payment card companies about this incident,” Trump Hotels said.
As is the case whenever a breach occurs that exposes credit card information, customers are advised to monitor their account activity, while the company states that any unusual activity should be reported to authorities immediately.
