Be Internet Awesome: The Internet is great, but it can also be a dangerous place, especially for kids. That's why Google has launched a new project called Be Internet Awesome, which aims to teach kids to make smart decisions online.
Most of us have had at least a few decades without the Internet or, at the very least, without social media. Today's kids will live their entire lives in cyberspace, leaving their mark, which makes it all the more important to know how to stay safe online.
Be Internet Awesome is a program that helps children learn about the online dangers of the digital world and how to protect themselves. The program includes smart online games, as well as long-form curriculum for teachers and schools, and videos for parents to watch with their children.
“Interland” gives children four mini-games:
Tower of Treasure, for example, helps kids learn how to create strong passwords, while Reality Rever presents 10 multiple-choice questions that help them determine who and what to trust when they're online.
Kind Kingdom educates children on Internet manners, which is extremely welcome, given the phenomenon of online bullying.
Mindful Mountain, the latest of the games, and focuses on how important it is to only share information with a few people you trust and not with anyone connected to the internet.
The games are fun and have been developed in such a way as to be educational. Google created this platform after partnerships with online safety organizations: Online Family Safety Institute, Internet Keep Safe Coalition and ConnectSafely.
Hopefully, with the help of these tools, teachers, parents, and children will learn the dangers we all encounter online and how to protect ourselves from various scams that are circulating.
