Google is constantly updating its proprietary apps with various features and tools, and Gboard is the latest to receive an update. Google just announced that it has introduced new languages and text editing tools to the Gboard app for Android.
Google revealed that it has added 22 Indian languages to the 120 it had. It also added transliteration support to the app, along with new text editing tools to make it easier for users to select, copy, and paste text using the app. Transliteration is a feature that helps users spell words phonetically if they are unsure of how a particular word is spelled.
Gboard also welcomed new options to resize and reposition the on-screen keyboard to suit each user's writing style and hand shape. The app now made glide typing and suggestions available in over 185 languages, while improvements for better accuracy and predictions were also introduced.
To bring the new features to Gboard, Google said it worked closely with speakers from across India and collected data for machine learning models so that more and more users can type in their native language.
Gboard also includes shortcuts to Google Search and Google Translate right on the keyboard, as well as a new text editing feature with buttons for easy control. To access the new feature, users simply need to select the Text Editing icon, which is located in the quick functions menu.
New customization options have also been added to Gboard, allowing users to change the size of the keyboard and change its position on the screen. To access the new tool, users simply need to tap the G icon and tap More. The update to Gboard is already available in the Play Store.
