– The mystery was solved thanks to Facebook
– The police discovered the ruthless perpetrators through the priest's messages
– The fateful rendezvous and their organized plan
– From Chania to Athens for the murder and then to Pakistan
The last discussions that Archimandrite Hierotheos had with his murderers on Facebook finally provided the solution to the "Gordian knot" of investigating the horrific murder of the unfortunate priest by two Pakistanis who asked for his help in legalizing their stay in the country.
The police officers of the Homicide Department of the Attica Security Service, within a period of one month, managed to solve the horrific crime and shed light on the unknown aspects of the case.
In fact, and as proven by the thorough investigation of the Security, the two Pakistani wanted men, 28 and 33 years old respectively, arrived in Athens from Kissamos, Chania, where they lived permanently and worked on estates. The purpose of the two criminalswas none other than the robbery and ultimately the murder of the 47-year-old Archimandrite with the great charitable work.
The police officers of the Homicide Department of the Attica Security, together with the experts of the Hellenic Police laboratories, immediately after the crime was revealed, literally "swept" the area, discovering the killers' DNA on the cords with which they had tied the unfortunate priest, on the body of the 47-year-old, but also on the dessert he had treated them to before his murder.
At the same time, it was discovered that the amount of money that Hierotheos used to keep in Gerakas' small apartment, no more than 5,000 euros, had become "feathers" along with gold pendants and crosses.
The solution to the mystery of the Archimandrite's last fateful appointment, about which he had in fact informed a friend of his, also a priest, came after the declassification of telephone conversations and internet browsing was completed.
On Facebook, the police discovered that the Archimandrite had conversations in his Inbox with two Pakistanis from Crete, who on the day in question would arrive in Athens to visit him at his apartment, in order to discuss the actions that the 47-year-old priest could take to legalize them in Greece.
The acquaintance with the two men had taken place through a third Pakistani who knew the victim and who had no connection to the crime, as at the time of the murder of the unfortunate priest, the cell phone of the third person in the case was giving a signal in the Omonia area.
Through the Facebook profiles of the two murderers, the police were able to locate their place of residence in Kissamos, Chania, and then, through a compatriot of theirs, the accommodation they were staying in on the estates where they worked. From there, they took genetic material from the perpetrators, which of course they compared with the DNA they had found in the unfortunate priest's apartment, resulting in the comparison pointing to the murderers, who had already taken care to leave for their homeland.
Also, as the investigation showed, the two murderers, aged 28 and 33 respectively, had visited the 47-year-old Archimandrite's apartment on other occasions and, as it seems, they knew that he kept a sum of money for the charities he used to give to the needy.
In fact, the police do not rule out the possibility that even the gold crosses and the amulets they seized from the priest's house were immediately sold at a pawnshop in Attica, in order to increase the cash they had already seized from the victim's apartment.
