Samsung vice chairman embroiled in political scandal

Earlier this month SamsungLee Jae-Yong was charged with bribery in a political scandal that led to the impeachment of South Korea's president.Samsung

Now Lee Jae-Yong may face a second arrest warrant which must be investigated by investigators in the case by the end of February.

On January 19, a local court rejected an arrest warrant for Lee Jae-Yong on charges of bribery, embezzlement and perjury. Specifically, the vice chairman was accused of bribing tens of millions of dollars to a close associate of the Korean president in exchange for the status of pension funds in order to back a merger between two Samsung subsidiaries.

But the court said the evidence was not enough to prove the money was given to back up Samsung's transactions, so investigators must find new evidence to issue a new arrest warrant.

They have called several people whose names are linked to the president's friend and found evidence that he had been promised an expensive horse in exchange for the deal, a fact that contradicts previous statements by the Samsung who had claimed that he had been forced to give the money to the president.

Currently, the South Korean Attorney General's Office is trying to prove that Lee paid $37 million to various organizations linked to the president's relative.

More information on the matter will be released very soon as investigators rush to complete the case and request a second arrest warrant for Lee Jae-Yong.
