The Kyon pet collar is designed to help you communicate and send messages to and from your pet.
The multi-purpose collar allows you to track your pet using GPS technology and communicate with others using an LED display on the outside of the collar.
While implanting a chip into an animal is becoming more common, Kyon could be good for someone who feels uncomfortable with having a chip placed on their dog.
The app lets you create a perimeter around the base station/charger so that if your pup wanders too far, you’ll know immediately with a notification on your phone. If a dog has run away, Kyon can display a “lost” message, as well as a phone number to alert someone around it.
3D GPS looks pretty impressive for a dog collar. It allows you to see the elevation of the collar's location, which can help you determine which floor or apartment of a building your dog is on, in case it gets stolen.
Pet owners will also be able to check on some aspects of their dog's health. The tracker monitors the dog's temperature and activity, so if the dog has a fever, is cold, is sleepy, is happy, or needs a walk, you will get a message from the collar itself, as well as a notification on their device. The tracker can also tell you when it is wet, in case the dog has fallen into water.
Additionally, the collar claims to be able to calm a barking dog using app-activated “ultrasound,” though we have to admit we’re a little wary of that, especially for happy dogs. The Kyon also claims to be able to deter a dog fight using the same technology, emitting a high-frequency sound.
The battery life is supposed to be 30 days, which is essential for a device like this. At $249, it's not cheap, and there's a $4.99 monthly fee for GPS functionality. The collar is currently available for pre-order and is expected to ship in late January.
