The Fedora Project has announced the release of the new beta version of Fedora 25. The beta version comes with the default Gnome 3.22 desktop environment, supports the Rust programming language, and features a media writer that helps users download installation ISOs and transfer them to USB drives.
The new beta version of Fedora 25 comes with Wayland as the default display server but also has X as a fallback option. It “wears” Linux kernel 4.8.1.
“Wayland is the replacement for the legacy X11 display system. Wayland has been in development for many years. Although, like most software, it still has some bugs, we believe it is ready to serve many users by default. Users can still choose the legacy X11 system if necessary to avoid any problems.”
The beta brings improved Flatpak support to the Software Tool: the Software Tool has the ability to install, update, and remove Flatpak software if your Fedora system is configured to access a repo that has it.
