How to downgrade an app on Android

There are cases where the previous version of an Android application worked better and after an upgrade you wish to downgrade it.

Unfortunately, the Play Store does not allow you to directly downgrade an Android application, so if you have not kept the apk file of the previous version, you are forced to stay on the latest version.

Also, some apps update automatically without giving you any choice in the matter. But even without having to root your phone, you can always run an older version of an app. Below you will find a guide that shows you the best method to downgrade an app.

Applications on the Android OS are usually a single compressed file with the APK extension. There is a different file for each version of each application. Unfortunately, the files for older versions are not offered by their manufacturers, so you are forced to look for them on third-party sites. However, you should be very careful when downloading files from the internet, as they can sometimes have malware embedded in them. However, unfortunately this is the only way to get your hands on older versions for free.

APK Mirror is a free repository of old versions and has a reputation for being safe, as the site was created by Android Police (but never trust anyone). The site claims to provide “clean” files, especially for downgrading apps .

Its operation is relatively simple. You can search for the application you are looking for and then select the version you are interested in from a range of versions.

Once you find the right file, download the APK file to your phone. Uninstall the original app from your device (the one with the newer version that you no longer care about). Open the File Manager app on your phone and navigate to where you have the APK file (usually in Downloads).

Tap it to open it and it will install on your device. You may need to allow the installation of apps from unknown sources. This is done from the Settings > Security > Unknown sources menu. Of course, make sure you have disabled automatic app updates

Finally, keep in mind that older versions of apps are more susceptible to hacking and support issues, so make sure to keep a backup of your personal data. Also, make sure to scan the APK file and your entire phone with an antivirus app after installation.
