OurMine is a Saudi Arabian hacking group that has been known to compromise CMS (Content Management System). The group recently managed to gain access to Variety.com and the tech website TechCrunch.
The group managed to steal the credentials of a columnist's account and from there they sent a newsletter to all subscribers of the website that read “hacked by #OurMine – [.Important] read the message!!”
The incident took place on Saturday, and Variety apologized to its users and email subscribers.
He also said there is no indication the group stole any personal user information during the short time it had access to the site.
At the end of July this summer, the group also attacked the TechCrunch website. The hackers managed to publish an “article” titled “OurMine Team! – Important message”
Just like Variety, the TechCrunch team acknowledged the incident and stated that “the hack appears to have occurred on an account belonging to one of TechCrunch’s columnists.”
The group usually hacks websites to point out alleged security vulnerabilities. It does not steal user accounts or personal data in general, which may be why Saudi authorities have not yet arrested the hackers, although their details are known from two different doxings.
