The latest trend in malware is called ransomware. The malware aims to blackmail the victim into paying him money. It uses many methods: by locking the screen, by encrypting certain files, or even by encrypting the entire disk. Hackers are betting that the victim may have a backup copy.
So the best way to deal with ransomware is to have backups. However, there are many who do not keep backups and malicious code continues to cause headaches for users and businesses.
Security company Kaspersky Lab recently released a free tool that allows businesses and individuals to protect themselves from cryptomalware or ransomware (on Windows devices).
“Small and medium-sized businesses typically don’t have the deep security expertise needed to evaluate or compare the dozens of security tools on the market.
Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware is a tool for the enterprise, is compatible with third-party security solutions and acts as a complementary measure against ransomware,” Kaspersky Lab says.
Kaspersky Lab's tool combines two technologies: the Kaspersky Security Network cloud service, which processes data from volunteer participants around the world, and the Watcher system, a security technology that records and analyzes network events, as well as any potential malicious activity.
