Peppermint OS officially released version 7 today. The new version is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus.
The new Peppermint OS 7 is distributed for both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures, but the 64-bit version offers full support for systems with Secureboot-UEFI.
Peppermint OS is a lightweight, stable, elegant and fast operating system with Open Source technologies. The latest version, Peppermint OS 7, borrows many packages from the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS distribution, which means it will provide long-term support. The operating system uses the LXDE desktop environment.
The new release also includes a new Ice Site Specific Browser framework, which allows users to install the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Chromium, and Google Chrome. The Whisker Menu is the default menu of the operating system, and xfce4-panel comes as a replacement for LXPanel.
It also brings a new application for the Peppermint Settings Panel, Mozilla Firefox as the default web browser, because Google stopped supporting the 32-bit version of Chrome for Linux.
The new Peppermint Settings Panel allows users to change Firefox themes with the Firefox Themer app, and Pluma replaces Gedit as the default text editor.
