LG has created an invisible fingerprint sensor

The fingerprint sensors we know so far aren't all that discreet. LG Innotek, which specializes in creating new hardware, has just announced a new fingerprint sensor that could be under the glass of your display.

While it's not the first button-less fingerprint sensor (the Nexus 6P and HTC 10 use fairly discreet fingerprint sensors) the company's announcement means that manufacturers can now hide the sensor entirely.

It also helps manufacturers create waterproof phones, without the need for waterproof cases.

LG says its new sensor is just as accurate as traditional ones, with a false positive rate of just 0.002 percent.

Fingerprint sensors are essential for smartphones these days, and we expect to see the new technology on many more devices in the coming years.
