WebTorrent Desktop: WebTorrent is best described as a BitTorrent client for the web. It allows you to share files directly from your browser, without having to configure or install any additional software.
The new WebTorrent Desktop was released today, offering a lightweight yet feature-rich torrent client for streaming on Windows, Linux, and Mac.
Sharing media content is mostly done using an app like uTorrent, Vuze, qBitTorrent, or Transmission, but thanks to Stanford University graduate Feross Aboukhadijeh, there's another way.
Instead of using standalone applications like those mentioned above, WebTorrent allows you to share files directly from your browser, without having to install any additional software.
“WebTorrent is the first torrent client developed for the web. It is written entirely in JavaScript and uses WebRTC for peer-to-peer transfers. There is no browser plugin, no extension, or installation required,” Feross told Torrentfreak.
WebTorrent caught the attention of Netflix, which contacted Feross to discuss its technology, which could be used extensively as a video streaming service, reducing bandwidth consumption.
WebTorrent Desktop (WDT) is the new creation of Feross. WDT provides an extremely smooth video streaming experience, it looks like any other torrent client, with a clean and simple interface.
