Nigerian scams are not new. Ever since email appeared, princes have appeared who want to offer you millions of dollars to save them from various calamities. So we know emails that say everything from free lottery tickets, millions that need to be sent out of the country, to advertisements for sex toys or pills.
But we had never seen this before..
We have now moved on to the next level of deception, which goes beyond the boundaries of our planet. The story goes like this:
A Nigerian astronaut (the first African in space, as the message below states) was abandoned a la Matt Damon by the Russians, and the government is seeking $3 million to organize a rescue mission.
The message was first published by Anorak.
The scammers are even using an email account with a .gov domain, from the government website.
It should be mentioned here that Nigerian scams have been around since almost the beginning of the Internet, and that means something. No one would be involved in “sports” if there was no profit.
So imagine, that even the most obvious scam can pay off for the scammers.
