Windows 10 introduced a new style in the sound control and the reason was that the new Windows had to be user‑friendly even on touch screens. So, if you left‑click the sound icon located at the bottom right of the notification bar you will see a horizontal bar with the volume of the sound.
If you want to go to the Mixer to adjust the volume per application, you will need to right-click on it and then go to the corresponding option, as described in this article.
But if you liked the old control , we inform you that it is still there, hidden and waiting for you to bring it to the surface. The process is done through the registry editor. Let's see how.
1. Open the registry editor. If you don't know how, then press the Win + R keys simultaneously and in the “Run” window that appears type the word regedit and press the OK button.
2. In the registry go to this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ MTCUVC
Note: If the MTCUVC key does not exist, simply create it. In the photos of our example it was not present, so we created it, resulting in it appearing last in the list and not in alphabetical order like all the other keys.
3. Create a new 32-bit DWORD value and name it EnableMtcUvc and set its value to 0 as shown in our example picture.
4. Close the registry editor. Don't worry about saving; it will be done automatically upon closing. Try left-clicking the sound icon. You should see the familiar old Windows 7 control.
5. If you don't see it, restart Explorer or if you don't know how, simply restart your computer.
If for some reason you want to revert back to the Windows 10 appearance, you simply have to delete the EnableMtcUvc key from the registry.
