25 years of the Web: See the first website

25 Years of the Web: On December 20, 1990, British scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee hosted the world's first website on the NeXT computer at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the birth of the first website.

After the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989 as a way to transfer information to all the world's institutions, Berners-Lee launched the first website that described how to set up a server and how to give access to content to others.

The world's first website explained how to access the internet.

The World Wide Web has evolved significantly since then, with powerful applications, services, and limitless sources of information on any topic you can think of.

It's fascinating to look at the humble beginnings of the Internet as we know it to compare how far we've come.

CERN still has the original server that hosted Berners-Lee's first online creation and, as of 2013, has restored the website to its original address.
