Microsoft introduced a very interesting new device at its New York event: the Surface Book.
It's a Surface laptop, developed by the same team that makes Surface with help from engineers from the Xbox team. The Surface Book comes in a magnesium frame, rather than aluminum or plastic.
It has a 13.5-inch display and supports touchscreen and stylus, just like the Surface tablet. What's even crazier is the detachable keyboard like the one on the Surface Pro 4.
Microsoft described the device's hinge (which allows the keyboard to fold) as "a wire that allows you to easily and seamlessly separate it from the body.".
According to Microsoft, the sports keyboard is “best in class keyboards.”
Other features of the device include an Intel Skylake chipset, 12 hours of battery life, and a dedicated NVIDIA graphics chip.
Panos Panay, vice president of Microsoft's hardware division, said it is the "fastest 13" laptop in the world" and that its performance is 2 times better than that of the MacBook Pro, although Apple's device has the latest generation chipset.
The Surface Book will start at $1,499 and will be available on October 26 in the United States and Canada.
Pre-orders will begin tomorrow in the selected countries.
