A 35-year-old man was arrested by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate in the Serres area for "piracy" of subscription satellite services
The arrested person was illegally receiving encrypted subscription channels and distributing them to 970 of his users-clients, in exchange for a sum of money

The Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Directorate has filed a criminal case against a 35-year-old Greek national in the Serres area, who was arrested while driving on a traffic light for the "piracy" of subscription satellite services.
The investigation into the case began following a complaint filed with the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate by an attorney for a telecommunications company, according to which the 35-year-old, using appropriate logistical equipment, had managed to view the company's subscription channels without paying the legal monthly subscription fee.
A team of Police Officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, yesterday (16-06-2015) morning, located the perpetrator in his home, in an area of Serres, and carried out, in the presence of a judicial representative, a legal investigation, during which a satellite receiver and other technological equipment were found connected to the internet and television, which were used for the aforementioned illegal activity, an act for which the 35-year-old was arrested while on the run.
As it was subsequently determined, the 35-year-old, using special software on the satellite receiver, was receiving the encoded channels of the calling company's "bouquet" of subscription channels, as well as other satellite subscription "packages".
During the investigation into the seized laptop, a specific illegal program was found, with which the defendant managed (activating and deactivating) 970 of his user-clients, from whom he received an unknown amount of money as compensation for his illegal services provided.
The company's financial loss from its illegal activity to date amounts to at least 1,164,000 euros, a percentage of which constitutes a loss for the Greek State due to non-return of VAT, as well as the existing contract between the State and the company in question for the provision of subscription services.
During the search of the defendant's home, the following were found and seized:
- Digital satellite receiver, including remote control,
- Internal PC hard drive,
- Laptop computer with its power supply.
The 35-year-old, who is accused of violating the Laws on Intellectual Property and on the Protection of Subscription Services, will be brought to the Serres First Instance Prosecutor's Office, while the confiscated items will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece for examination.
