The Prometheus of the National Technical University of Athens at the Shell Eco Marathon

The "Prometheus" research team, which is composed of volunteer students from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), built the electric prototype vehicle "Pyrforos II" with which it participated for the seventh consecutive year in the internationally renowned European fuel economy competition Shell Eco Marathon 2015.Shell Eco Marathon

The Shell Eco Marathon is under the auspices of the European Commission and was organized on May 21-24 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

During its participation in the competition, the team managed to compete with exceptional success and travel 487 km with one kilowatt-hour (kWh), breaking its own previous record.

It ranked 10th among 50 teams that participated in the Prototype Battery Electric Car category and became the first Greek team to be in the top ten in this category.

As for the vehicle's electric drive system, it does not include commercial parts but has been constructed entirely by team members, utilizing know-how and technologies developed in the School's Electrical Machines and Power Electronics Laboratory, essentially creating its own separate category in the competition.

This year's effort incorporated these technologies as well as the experience gained from previous years into an improved prototype single-seater vehicle powered by a photovoltaic panel and high-performance batteries.

The team's history of success includes the honorable distinction among over 180 European entries in the competition, with the "Best Team Spirit off-track award 2013". Shell Eco Marathon
